PRODUCE DELIVERY COORDINATOR

 

Introduction to DA BOX Community-Supported Agriculture

DA BOX was launched in 2014 to provide affordable access to heathy Hawai‘i grown fruits and vegetables. The program buys and aggregates produce from local farmers and re-sells to DA BOX subscribers. On a weekly or bi-monthly basis, subscribers receive a bag of 7-8 produce items. The retail price for a weekly subscription is $80 per month (4 weeks), and a bi-monthly subscription is $40 per month (2 weeks). DA BOX offers a 50% discount to low-income customers paying with SNAP-EBT food benefits to incentivize produce purchasing and consumption among this population at high risk for developing diet-related chronic health conditions. The DA BOX program is seeking a full-time employee who will be responsible for managing produce inventory and executing produce delivery routes as directed by the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Coordinator.

 

Compensation: Full-time position at $16 per hour

 

Benefits:  Full health insurance coverage including dental and vision insurance; 15 paid holidays (including day off for birthday); 15 days paid time off (PTO) in the first year; maximum PTO allowance increases with years of service; and 401(k) available after one year of service

Education Requirements: High School Diploma

 

Desired Experience: One (1) year experience working in a warehouse.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Work closely with the CSA Coordinator and Quality Assurance Coordinator to manage produce inventory. This includes receiving and unloading produce from farmers, inspecting produce for defects and damage, verifying and signing farmer invoices, re-packing and prepping produce into coolers and bags for delivery routes, and organizing produce by routes in appropriate storage spaces in the warehouse (ie. within the walk-in refer, reach-in refers, reach-in freezer and sorting room).

  2. Ensure that drivers are loaded with all produce and materials needed for their routes, including sign-off sheets, newsletters, pens, hand sanitizer, and any miscellaneous goods the driver may be transporting for other programs.

  3. Execute delivery routes in a large, refrigerated truck or van. Most routes require cross-island travel and take several hours to complete.

  4. Have a helpful demeanor when interacting with customers.

  5. Maintain cleanliness of the produce delivery vehicles and produce storage and packing areas. Always remove any trash you create from eating and drinking or from produce handling when you are done using a vehicle or work area. Put all supplies back in their appropriate storage bins/compartments.

  6. Abide by all company safety and hygiene regulations.

  7. Contribute ideas on ways to improve or optimize operations.

  8. Take an initial drug test prior to employment start date and be subject to random drug testing.

  9. Assist with customer phone and email inquiries as needed.

  10. Follow guidance and directions as instructed by this position’s direct supervisor, the CSA Coordinator. The CSA Coordinator will further define and communicate other duties and responsibilities not included in this job description.

  11. Be open to assisting beyond the DA BOX program as needed, including with emergency food distributions, community events such as parades and fundraisers, and disaster response efforts.

 

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Ability to move 50 lbs or more on a daily basis.

  2. Ability to operate forklift, hand truck, pallet jacks and other warehouse equipment.

  3. Ability to work inside a hot warehouse environment and in outside settings where you may experience cold and wet conditions.

  4. Ability to interface with a wide range of cultures and stakeholders, including program staff, participants, and donors. Practice cultural sensitivity at all times.

  5. Strong communication skills.

  6. Problem-solving skills that allow for creative pathways toward an end goal.

  7. Safe-driving temperament.
